Thing 12 - Library Thing

Well I've checked out the 'Library Thing' and I think it's a fantastic resource for book lovers! I'm glad to have found it (thanks Jason).

I took the tour and created an account. I've added a few books but not a lot yet, I'm sure more will follow as I feel I'm going to enjoy using this site!

My account can be found at:

I still need to add tags to my books, but I'll get there!

Thing 11 - Image Generator Task

I loved checking out all the image/text generators for this task - fun fun fun!

I've played with lots of different generators, but have chosen to blog my results from the 'Spell With Flickr' Generator here. I found this while searching through all the different options in the 'Generator Blog.'

The link to this is:

Thing 9,10 - Wiki's

I've had a look at some of the library Wiki's Jason suggested and found the "Book Lovers Wiki" to be a great service offering user reviews on all different kinds of literature.

I've also had a go at 'editing' the chislib23t Wiki, which was lots of fun! I added some images, tried centering some text, and created a "Favourite Books" page.

I'd never edited a Wiki before this task (although I had used various Wiki sites for resource purposes) and found the whole process to be an enjoyable experience. Being user based, I can see how Wiki's would be useful for Libraries and the exchange of information.

Thng 8 - Podcasts and Vodcasts

While I did know about podcasts, I'd never actually subscribed to any or downloaded and listened to one before this task. I have now linked to Itunes, Uncontrolled Vocabulary and Media Watch.

Although I am glad to know how podcasts and vodcasts work, I can't really see me using these much. But still, all these things are great to know!

Things 6,7 - Subscribe to Blogs and Comment

I've had a lot of fun searching out some interesting blogs and subscribing to them. I've also commented on some of the Library 23 Things blogs undertaking this program.

I admire people who take the time to create a well informed and well written blog for others to read and comment on. It must take them a lot of time and some of them certainly make for great reading!

Things 3,4,5 - Create a RSS Reader Account.

I created a Google Reader account and have fast become aware of how addictive these 'feeds' can be! Apart from subscribing to the Library feeds that Jason suggested, I have also subscibed to numerous ABC news feeds (which I've found are incredibly hard to keep up with, so now I feel guilty that I can't read them all!) I've also included a few 'fun' feeds in my Reader account.

Again, I was never sure how to use these feeds before this program, although I often saw that orange symbol on different websites and wondered what it was. So I am glad to know now what RSS feeds are and how they work, and feel sure I will make good use of these in the future!

Things 1, 2 - Extend Your Browser Task.

The 'Extend Your Browser Task' has proved extremely helpful for me. I've found quite a few handy add-ons and search plug-ins which are already being put to good use! I especially like the 'Morning Coffee' and 'Fox lingo' add-ons, and the 'Blogger' plug-in is wonderful as it links me straight to this site.

I was previously completely unaware that these types of tools were available, I am so pleased to have found out about them thanks to this program and look forward to learning more as the program progresses :-)
